Eyelash Extensions FAQ & Eyelash Extensions vs. Lash Lift

Eyelash extensions give women the glamour lashes they always dream of, but so many women wish they knew more about eyelash extensions before they got them.

How do eyelash extensions work?  

The process uses special glue to affix one or multiple lash extensions to one of your natural lash.  They appear to actually have a root when closely observed and very natural looking.

What’s the difference between different types of lash extensions?

There are three different types of eyelash extensions: Genuine Siberian mink, synthetic mink and silk mink.  They range in size from 6mm to 17mm.  Synthetic mink and silk mink are the most popular lashes due to the price for their quality; Genuine Siberian mink lashes are very luxurious but you pay for that luxury, because of that, they are less popular.

Both synthetic mink and silk lashes are very popular and comfortable to wear.  Synthetic mink lashes aren’t as glossy as silk mink lashes, as some women like the glossy look, others don’t. The silk lashes are a little bit darker and make your lashes stand out more than synthetic mink and they are a little bit softer than the synthetic mink lashes. Therefore, most of my clients like the silk mink over the synthetic mink lashes.

What’s the difference between Classic and Volume lash extensions?

Classic eyelash extensions are applied to individual eyelashes using one eyelash extension to one natural eyelash to create a longer and fuller look.  They are perfect for women who have a lot of eyelashes already and just want to have the longer and fuller look.

Volume eyelash extensions are applied using multiple eyelash extensions to one natural eyelash to create the longer and fuller look or more dramatic look.  They are ideal for women who don’t have a lot of eyelashes or have bald spots on them, creating that longer and fuller look.  Volume lashes are also perfect for women who have a lot of lashes already and want a fuller and more dramatic look.  Volume lashes are thinner, lighter and fluffier than classic lashes, that’s why they can be applied multiple lashes to just one natural lash and would not hurt or damage the natural lash.  Either mink or silk lash extensions can create a gorgeous and natural look to your eyes.

How long does it take to do a full set of eyelash extensions? Are they painful?

It takes about 2 to 3 hours to do a full set of lash extensions which depends on what type of lash extensions you are getting.  Yes, it takes a while, but getting your lashes done is very relaxing, most of my clients fall asleep.  Plus you don’t have to curl your lashes and put mascara on every morning, just wake up and be beautiful.  How nice is that?

How long do they last?

Lash extensions last about 4 to 6 weeks depending on the lift cycle of your own natural lashes and other factors.  Though the average cycle of a single lash is about 90 days, factors such as your eyelash characteristics, lifestyle, and general care of your lashes will affect how long your lashes last.  Getting a re-lash every 2 to 3 weeks is recommended to keep the prefect look.

What shouldn’t I do when wearing eyelash extensions?

Although lash extensions look and feel just like your own natural lashes, they are not and there are some things you shouldn’t do.

• You should never try to remove the lash extension yourself, as there would be a very high risk to breakage or loss of your natural lashes.
• Don’t rub your eyes too aggressively in general or on your pillow while sleeping, which would make the lash extensions fall out.

Lash Extensions vs. Lash Lift.

Eyelash extensions can give you the length and volume you don’t have with your natural lashes, but they require maintenance, which could include a re-lash every 2 to 3 weeks depending on how well you take care of them.

A lash lift is a great way to make your straight natural lashes have a curl, which would give the illusion of length to your lashes.  It’s a great way to enhance the beauty of your natural lashes.  However, a lash lift can’t give you the length and volume lash extensions can.  To keep that perfect look, I would recommend a lash lift every 5 to 6 weeks.
