How to Prepare for the Waxing Season
As the temperatures rise, so does the desire for smooth, hair-free skin. Whether you’re a regular waxer or new to the experience, preparing properly can make all the difference in achieving the best results. At Invigorate Spa, we specialize in Brazilian bikini waxing and other professional waxing services designed to leave your skin soft, smooth, and irritation-free. Here’s how to get ready for the waxing season like a pro.
1. Exfoliate for a Flawless Wax
Gently exfoliating your skin a couple of days before your waxing appointment helps remove dead skin cells and lifts trapped hairs, ensuring a cleaner and more effective wax. Avoid exfoliating your skin on the same day or the day before your waxing appointment, as this can make your skin overly sensitive and more prone to irritation. You would want to choose a mild, organic scrub or a dry brush to prep your skin without irritation.
2. How Long Should My Hair Be?
For the best waxing results, your hair should be about ¼ inch long—roughly the length of a grain of rice, that’s approximately 2 to 2 ½ weeks after shaving. We highly recommend you grow your hair out to 1/2″ long to help ensure the hair is completely removed from the root, especially if you have thick/coarse hair. Avoid shaving between appointments, as it can lead to uneven hair growth and make your next wax less effective. Letting your hair grow too long before waxing can make the process more uncomfortable.
3. Stay Hydrated and Moisturized
Well-hydrated skin allows for a smoother waxing experience. Drink plenty of water and keep your skin nourished with a lightweight, fragrance-free moisturizer. However, skip moisturizing on the day of your wax to ensure the best adherence.
4. Avoid Caffeine and Alcohol Before Your Appointment
Both caffeine and alcohol can make your skin more sensitive to waxing. Try to avoid these beverages a few hours before your session to minimize discomfort.
5. What Should I Wear to a Waxing Appointment?
Loose, breathable clothing is ideal for post-wax comfort. Tight clothing can cause irritation, especially after a Brazilian bikini wax or leg waxing.
6. How often Should I Get Wax?
We recommend getting a wax every 4 to 5 weeks, your hair is generally long enough to get another wax during that time frame, that way you maintain your hair and it would not hurt as much.
7. Can I get wax when I am on my period?
Yes, you are totally fine to get a wax while on your period, we would need you to have a clean tampon or cup before your wax. Your skin would be a little bit more sensitive, which it’s more painful than normal and you would have a higher chance of getting a bruise.
8. Can I get wax during pregnancy?
Yes, it’s generally safe to get wax during pregnancy. However, because the increased blood flow to your skin makes it super sensitive, it would be more painful than usual, and a higher chance of getting a bruise.
9. Soothe and Protect Post-Wax
After your wax, keep your skin happy by applying an aloe-based gel or a soothing oil to calm any redness. Avoid hot showers, workouts, and sun exposure for at least 24 hours to prevent irritation.
