New To Brazilian Waxing? Here’s What You Need To Know
If you are new to brazilian waxing or deciding to finally go bare down there, we are very sure you’ve heard a lot about it already. To start off, hearing about the process might make you feel awkward and shy but you should know that it’s just business as usual for your technician so don’t be shy.
If you’re keen on keeping a maintenance routine for your bikini area but don’t like the hassle of shaving regularly, a Brazilian wax is something worth looking into. Here are the things that you need to know about this procedure.
What is a Brazilian Wax?
Brazilian wax is just one of the many methods of hair removal. The technician uses a special wax (either hot or cold), adheres it to your skin, and rips it away in one fluid motion.
One type of waxing is called Strip waxing (soft wax). This technique spreads the wax thinly over the skin. A cloth or paper strip is applied and pressed firmly, adhered the strip to the wax and the wax to the skin. The strip is then quickly pulled against the direction of hair growth, as parallel as possible to the skin. This removes the wax along with the hair.
What do I need to do before getting a Brazilian Wax?
You can make the work for your technician easier by trimming (don’t shave) your bush to about half to quarter of an inch.
If you are worried about the pain and your pain tolerance is not that high, you may also drink a painkiller at least 2 hours before your appointment.
Is it painful?
This could be the number one thing that you would like to know about the procedure. Is it really painful? To be honest, any procedure that involves ripping out your hair from its root is going to hurt. The good news, however, is that when you start waxing consistently, your pubic hair grows back finer and softer, making your next sessions a lot more bearable than the first.
How much time do I have until my next Brazilian waxing session?
The removed hairs will not typically grow back for two to four weeks depending on the individual. For best results you should wait four to six weeks to get waxed again.
Here are more tips from us that could make your Brazilian Waxing experience easier:
- Exfoliate the area the night before your appointment
- Wear breathable clothing
- Wait for at least 3 weeks after your period before getting any type of waxing
- Avoid coffee or alcohol
- Do not shave! The hair should be at least half an inch (but you can trim it a bit it’s already too bushy)
- Pop a pain reliever, if needed
To end, body hair is completely normal—don’t let others tell you otherwise. Remember that getting rid of (extra) hair is a choice you make for yourself.
