The 9 Golden Rules of Waxing that You Need to Know
It’s summer season and it’s also the time of beach bumming and bikini bods flaunting. A lot of you might also have taken (or thinking about taking) their must-have brazilian waxing sesh. But, actually, whatever the season, rain or shine, smooth, hair-free skin is in.
Each time you wax (remove hair from the root), you are actually continually managing hair growth, causing your hair to thin and grow more slowly. But before you get ready for your “READY, STRIIIIIP” session, here are the 9 golden rules that you need to take note of first.
1. Do not get waxed when you’re on period.
We are putting this on the top list because this is very important. You should never (ever) get waxed when you have your menstrual period. Why? Because your skin is a lot more sensitive during this time. Wait at least a week after your cycle before making an appointment to make the process (almost!) ouch-free.
2. Do not take coffee (or anything with caffeine) before getting a wax.
Pass the coffee (we know this is hard to do but you need to) if you’re getting a wax. This is because drinks like coffee and alcohol can make you more susceptible to pain.
3. Take a warm shower before you get stripped.
Warm water opens your skin’s pores, so hair gets pulled out easier, faster.
4. Do not shave in between appointments.
We know that the tiny in your hair that’s beginning to sprout on your legs is really annoying and you want to get rid of it. BUT, shaving in-between visits is COUNTERPRODUCTIVE, and will just make your skin prickly. Wait for your next appointment. As they say, patience is a virtue, my dear.
5. Consult with your waxing technician
You have to treat your waxing technician as your best friend. You have to tell her everything: Whitening creams you use, and the topical retinoids you apply—because these products make your skin super sensitive.
6. Do not exercise or have intercourse right after getting a brazilian.
Perspiration is not good for your newly-waxed skin. Sweat might aggravate your skin, making it prone to redness—or worse, zits. (ouch)
7. Do not wear super tight clothes.
Give your skin time to breathe and recover after getting waxed. Stick to cotton panties after getting a brazilian and avoid tight underwear.
8. Do it regularly.
The more you do it, the more you’re immune to the pain. So schedule an appointment every 4 weeks.
9. Find a technician that you’re comfortable with.
Befriend the waxing technicians—and stick to someone you’re comfortable with. It’s easier to keep coming back for appointments when you’re at ease with the one doing the process.
